2019 NSLA Awards

The Nova Scotia Library Association (NSLA) announced the recipients of their professional awards on October 19th, 2019 during the annual conference held at White Point Beach Resort in Liverpool. Wendy Trimper (L.), and Ann-Marie Mathieu (R.) The Norman Horrocks Award for Library Leadership was established to honour leadership in the Nova Scotia Library community and is given by NSLA for distinguished contributions to the promotion and development of library service in Nova Scotia. This year’s recipient was Wendy Trimper , Community Library Services Coordinator for the Annapolis Valley Regional Library. Denice Corey (L.), and Karen MacNeill (R.) The Emile Theriault Library and Information Technology Award, established in 2006, recognizes the efforts of a library support staff member who has made a major contribution to their library community. NSLA Professional Awards

The Nova Scotia Library Association (NSLA) announced their professional awards at their annual conference on September 29 at the Rodd Grand Hotel and Conference Centre in Yarmouth. The NSLA’s Norman Horrocks Award for Library Leadership recognizes library leadership in the Nova Scotia library community and is given in recognition of distinguished contributions of lasting significance to the promotion and development of library service in Nova Scotia. The award was presented to Laura Emery, CEO/Chief Librarian for Eastern Counties Regional Library. The award was given to Laura in recognition of her library leadership not only in the Eastern Counties Regional Library, but in the Nova Scotia-wide library community as well. The award particularly recognized Laura’s idea for and incomparable contribution to the creation, development and promotion of Nova Scotian authors and books in the 2017 library project, Reading Nova Scotia: 150 Books of Influence. Faye MacDougall wins Provincial Library Award

The Nova Scotia Library Association (NSLA) is pleased to announce that Faye MacDougall, Regional Librarian with the Cape Breton Regional Library is the 2017 recipient of the Norman Horrocks Award for Library Leadership. This award recognizes library leadership in the Nova Scotia library community, and is given in recognition of distinguished contributions of lasting significance to the promotion and development of library service in Nova Scotia. At the end of the 2016/2017 academic year, NSLA awards were presented to graduating students from Dalhousie’s School of Information Management and the Nova Scotia Community College’s Library and Information Technology (LIT) program. On May 30, NSLA President, Cindy Lelliott, presented the NSLA Award for School of Information Management Graduate to Katie Gallant . The award is given to the student with high academic achievement and a demonstrated commitment to public libraries. Kelli WooShue, PR & Promotions Convenor, represented the NSLA Board at the NSCC-Waterfront Campus’ Student Success Celebration Awards on June 8. At the ceremony, she presented the NSLA Award for Library and Information Technology (LIT) Student to Guy LeLievre in recognition of his contribution to the overall LIT program. Students Receive Awards for Excellence

Halifax (June 15, 2013) – Two future library professionals have been recognized for their academic achievement and commitment to libraries. Students from the Dalhousie University School of Information Management and the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) Library and Information Technology program recently received awards from the Nova Scotia Library Association (NSLA). At the annual School of Information Management awards reception, Dalhousie graduate Tara Rumsey was awarded the NSLA Award for School of Information Management Graduate. This award is given to a graduating student with high academic achievement and a demonstrated commitment to public libraries. NSCC student Chelsey Millen was awarded The NSLA Award for Library and Information Technology Student at the recent NSCC student awards celebration. The Nova Scotia Library Association is seeking nominations for the NSLA Norman Horrocks Award for Library Leadership. The Norman Horrocks Award for Library Leadership was established to honour leadership in the Nova Scotia Library community and is given by NSLA for distinguished contributions to the promotion and development of library service in Nova Scotia. Those contributions should be of lasting significance and may be for leadership of various kinds – ranging from local projects to those of provincial scope, and may cover any type of library activity. Award deadlines extended

The closing date for nominations for the Emile Theriault Library and Information Technology Award and Norman Horrocks Library Leadership Award , presented at NSLA, has been extended to July 20 . These Awards recognize the achievements of individuals who have made significant contributions to the Library field. Please consider nominating a colleague for one of these Awards. Recipients of NSLA Student Awards Announced

NSLA is pleased to announce the recipients of the School of Information Management, Dalhousie University and the Library and Information Technology, NSCC graduate awards. The NSLA Award for the School of Information Management graduate, given to a student with high academic achievement and a demonstrated commitment to public libraries, went to Ariel Kleber .  Ariel was awarded this at the School of Information Management award reception. The recipient of the 2012 NSLA Award for a Library and Information Technology Student, which recognizes the achievement of a graduating student for the greatest contribution to the overall programme, is Dea Nieuwejaar . The recipients of the NSLA Awards each receive a certificate of accomplishment, a one-year free membership to NSLA, and a monetary prize. Congratulations to Ariel and Dea!

Rachel Crosby Winner of the 2011 Emile Theriault Library and Information Technology Award

(Sydney, NS – September 30, 2011) Rachel Crosby was named by the Nova Scotia Library Association as the recipient of the 2011 Emile Theriault Library and Information Technology Award. The Theriault Award was established to recognize the efforts of a library support staff member who has made a major contribution to their library community. The award was presented during the NSLA Annual Conference Banquet held at the Delta Sydney Hotel in Sydney, NS on the evening of September 24th.

Halifax Public Library Winner of OLA’s President’s Award for Exceptional Achievement

Halifax Public Library was one of the winners of the OLA’s President Award for Exceptional Achievement awarded at the Ontario Library Association super conference 2009. This award acknowledges an outstanding action or contribution that has in a major or unique way enhanced or furthered librarianship in Ontario.

NSLA PRESENTS AWARDS AT ANNUAL CONFERENCE

The Nova Scotia Library Association held its annual conference October 3rd-5th in Greenwich, NS. The conference was held jointly with the Library Boards Association of Nova Scotia and was hosted by the Annapolis Valley Regional Library.
