Margaret Atwood Headliner at Library Fundraiser

Best-selling Canadian author Margaret Atwood will greet her readers and fans at an evening fundraiser for the South Shore Public Libraries on Tuesday, August 23 at the Best Western Bridgewater Hotel.

Atwood is the award winning author of more than forty books of fiction, poetry and critical essays.

Atwood will read from and discuss her latest book, The Year of the Flood. The ticket price of $100 includes a copy of The Year of the Flood, and Atwood will sign books after the reading. Live entertainment, a welcome cocktail and maritime themed snacks prepared by the Best Western’s Red Seal executive chef Tom Connors are also included. Select items will be available for auction. A tax receipt will be issued for a
portion of the entrance fee.

Atwood’s recent publications include Moral Disorder, a collection of interconnected short stories and The Door, a collection of poetry (both 2007). In 2008, Atwood delivered the CBC Massey Lecture Series, published by House of Anansi Press as Payback: Debt and the Shadow Side of Wealth. Her novel, Oryx and Crake, was short-listed for the Man Booker Prize and the Giller Prize. She is the author of the 2000 Booker Prize-winning The Blind Assassin and Alias Grace, which won the Giller Prize in Canada and the Premio Mondello in Italy. Her other books include The Robber Bride, Cat’s Eye, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Penelopiad, and The Tent.

In 2008, she was the recipient of the Prince of Asturias Award for Letters in Spain.
